Entegris Turns a Recovery Into an Acceleration: Q3 Beat, Doubled Backlog and a Q4 Guide That Resets the Bar

Entegris did more than beat estimates. It accelerated through them. Non-GAAP EPS of $1.23 topped the $1.04 consensus by 18.3% and grew 70.8% year over year. Revenue of $1.006 billion, a company record, beat the $924.45 million consensus by 8.8% and rose 24.6%. That growth rate has stepped up every quarter this year: roughly 5% in Q1, 11% in Q2 and now about 25%. Revenue landed some $80 million above the midpoint of management's own $905-935 million guide. The central takeaway is that the semiconductor materials recovery investors spent most of 2026 doubting is now broad, visible in backlog and showing up in margins.

The quality of the beat holds up better than many semiconductor beats do, though two details deserve attention.

First, the non-GAAP figures are, if anything, conservative. Management excluded an $8.3 million out-of-period refund of IEEPA tariffs from adjusted results. GAAP gross margin of 49.7% therefore overstates the run-rate, while the adjusted 48.9% does not. Even so, 48.9% was up 130 basis points sequentially and 530 basis points year over year, which management called the highest in more than 25 years.

Second, depreciation fell to $33.9 million from $50.4 million a year ago. That flatters operating margin relative to EBITDA. Adjusted operating margin expanded 570 basis points to 26.8%, while adjusted EBITDA margin rose a more modest 290 basis points to 30.2%.

GAAP EPS more than doubled to $1.03 from $0.46, despite a tax rate that normalized from an unusually low prior-year level.

Cash generation was the cleaner story. Free cash flow hit a record of roughly $224 million, versus $120 million in Q2, and was helped by a sharp increase in payables and accruals that offset rising receivables and inventory. Entegris paid down $200 million of debt in the quarter and retired its term loan ahead of schedule.

Beneath the headline, the call showed growth broadening rather than narrowing:

  • **Advanced Purity Solutions** grew 31% to $605 million, and its adjusted segment margin widened to 34.4% from 30.3% in Q2.
  • **Materials Solutions**, the laggard all year, grew 16% after 5% in Q2 and 3% in Q1.
  • **Unit-driven revenue** growth rose from about 6% in Q1 to 20%.
  • **Capex-linked sales** swung from a modest decline early in the year to growth of more than 35%.

The forward indicators matter most. Backlog rose more than 35% sequentially and more than doubled year over year, with book-to-bill well above 1. New plan-of-record wins include EUV filtration at 2nm, multiple memory CMP positions and an advanced materials win with a major smartphone and tech provider. Management's tone moved from "cautiously optimistic" in February to describing commercial engagement as never stronger.

Guidance raised the bar again. Q4 revenue of $1.025-1.055 billion implies about 26% growth, well above the mid-teens run-rate implied on the Q2 call. Non-GAAP EPS guidance of $1.32-1.40 compares with the $0.96-1.04 Q3 guide. Gross margin is guided to 49.2-49.7% and adjusted EBITDA margin to about 31%. Management also trimmed 2026 capex to roughly $200 million from $250 million and lowered its year-end net leverage target to about 2.7x. That leverage target has improved on every call this year.

Bears still have legitimate ammunition:

  • **Repeatability.** Management credited much of the outperformance to execution and backlog conversion, which may not recur at the same pace.
  • **Seasonality.** Q1 2027 is previewed down mid-single digits sequentially, though still up more than 20% year over year.
  • **Capacity.** Supply pinch points are emerging, notably in CMP pads.
  • **Mainstream logic.** That end market remains capped by tight memory availability.
  • **Costs.** Factory headcount is up about 30%, and performance-based pay is rising.
  • **New facilities.** The Taiwan KSP plant only just reached gross-profit breakeven and stays dilutive through most of 2027. Colorado does not generate revenue until 2027.
  • **Long-term targets.** Margin and free-cash-flow targets were deferred to the November 9 Capital Markets Day, which now carries real weight.

The market setup is more complicated than the surprise implies. Investor sentiment improved meaningfully into the report, rising from -0.39 to -0.17, but it remains negative. Skepticism has eased without disappearing. Shares closed at $159.32 the day before the release. That was 16.3% above the open following the August report and nearly 16% above the 200-day moving average. The stock rallied from a September 3 low of $125.78 to an October 2 high of $169.63, then gave back about 6%. Entegris therefore entered the print with a solid rebound already in place, but below its recent peak. The Earnings Whispers trend signals are mostly positive, with sequential growth, momentum and AVWAP constructive while the price trend reads neutral.

The bottom line is that Entegris delivered an accelerating quarter with a backlog and guidance profile that extend the story into 2027. Much of the strength came from APS, capex-linked demand and execution on a growing order book. The open questions are capacity, cost creep, facility dilution and whether backlog conversion can sustain this pace. With sentiment still below neutral, the November 9 Capital Markets Day becomes the next real test of whether this inflection is durable.
