Kyivstar's Third Guidance Raise Faces a Slowing Mobile Engine Ahead of Investor Day

Kyivstar has raised its full-year outlook twice in 2026, and each raise has made the next one harder to earn. The third-quarter report, due before the open on November 6, lands just ten days before the company's first Capital Markets Day in New York. The question is whether the operating momentum behind those raises is still building, or whether the slowdown in mobile pricing that surfaced last quarter is starting to show up in the core business.

The Street expects earnings of $0.36 a share on revenue of about $332 million. That would be 9.1% EPS growth and 11.8% revenue growth from the year-ago $0.33 and $297 million. Solid, but not spectacular. Two details stand out. First, the revenue estimate sits below the $339 million the company booked in the second quarter, so analysts are modeling a modest sequential dip. Second, 11.8% dollar growth is short of management's raised full-year guidance for 14% to 16% in dollar terms. Hryvnia revenue growth is guided at 21% to 23%, and EBITDA at 17% to 19%, or 9% to 12% in dollars. The gap could reflect currency assumptions, which management now explicitly describes as outside its control, or some caution about the second half. Either way, the consensus bar does not look aggressive relative to company targets. A print that tracks closer to the guided growth rate would argue the Street is underestimating the year.

The main operating issue is mobile. Last quarter an analyst pointed out that underlying mobile revenue growth had roughly halved to about 5% from about 10%, as price increases became harder to push through. The subscriber base also slipped about 3% to 21.8 million, as customers dropped second SIM cards and Ukraine's demographics weighed on volumes. Average revenue per user has carried the story so far: mobile IRPU edged up to $3.90 and multiplay IRPU jumped to $5.80. If IRPU keeps rising while churn holds near the 14% annualized rate seen in the second quarter, the pricing slowdown looks like a pause rather than a ceiling. Another flat or weaker mobile growth figure, combined with continued subscriber erosion, would challenge the idea that the core carrier can keep funding the expansion. The EU roaming headwind, worth roughly 1 billion hryvnia and falling almost entirely to EBITDA, remains a drag on that math.

Digital is the offset, and it needs to keep scaling without diluting margins much further. Digital revenue grew 83% to $74 million last quarter, about 22% of the total, helped by Uklon's 50% growth and the first full quarter of Tabletki, which earned roughly 80% margins. Yet digital EBITDA margin drifted down to 42% from about 44% a year earlier as lower-margin services grew. Steady margins near that level, plus further gains in equity free cash flow after the jump to $104 million, would support the improving tone. The newer catalysts, including the Lviv solar acquisition that hedges about 30% of power demand, paid Starlink data bundles and the sovereign AI effort, are mostly early-stage. Investors should look for evidence of progress rather than big numbers, since the detailed unit economics are likely being held for the investor day.

Reported net profit carries extra noise. A $21 million non-cash warrant revaluation pushed second-quarter profit down 6%, and that mark-to-market line can swing either way, so the headline EPS figure may matter less than EBITDA and cash flow.

The market has not rewarded the second raise. The stock is down 4.2% since the last report, trailing the S&P 500 by 8 points, and it is trading at $13.33, well below the previous quarter's high of $16.55. It sits above its 200-day average of $12.87 and in the upper half of its post-earnings range. Sentiment has improved, though, with bearish readings easing to about 42% from about 50%. The verdict will rest on whether mobile pricing stabilizes enough for digital growth to add to the total rather than simply replace lost momentum. If it does, management can arrive at investor day with the outlook intact or raised again.
